$2.2k. Roughish paint, interior looks okay, claims A/C functioned before motor stopped running. Could probably get it for cheaper than he's asking.

Thoughts?

CP. It has a tired body and needs a new engine (or at least a serious overhaul)? Who'd pay for that?

Belt break = dirty piston/valve love?

If the timing belt broke while driving(which it undoubtedly did), you got engine toast. Best have a lot of butter. That is the one thing you don't want. Call an import mechanic and ask him worst case scenario of a broken timing belt. Ask him what could all be wrong with it, if you felt comfortable tackling this, get a parts list, otherwise ask him how much he would charge.
Also, you can find better for the same price if not a tad more.

I realize it may not be close to you.

People on here complain about it a lot, but I think this is the perfect example of when an LS/LQ4 swap is the perfect remedy. Would cost way too much (compared to its value) to fix it correctly, but a LS motor could get this running (and quickly) on the cheap.
Massaging the tired chassis would be a different matter, though.

Oh, I'm not legitimately looking, just daydreaming. That S2 is a WAY better deal, even if it comes with a litany of issues (a worn out, $2k S2 in NJ? It has issues).

Buy it for around $1800-2000. Yank out the four pot and do an LS conversion!

Glad to see someone not complaining about an LS swap, as I think it's about the only right move here. I'm as tired of seeing them as anyone, but sometimes it's the right choice, and I think that's definitely the case here.

Undoubtedly.

It does say 89 but it's not, either that or someone put an older front on it. It's at newest an 87 and I don't think it's more than a 86.

NP. I agree with getting it for about $1800 and swapping the engine. I think a Lexus 2jzge (3.0 I6) would go well in there.
I've never noticed before how much the Porsche steering wheel resembles one from a Mustang of the same period.

Ah, you're right indeed. Still a better deal if it's running.

If you get that car I'm going to be super jelly. That's exactly what I'm hoping to do next year. I'm looking to get my first project car and a 944 is high on the list.

CP - Needs a new head and pistons. Looking at about $1000 if you do everything yourself, $2000-$2500 for a shop to do it. I wouldn't pay more than $600 for that car.
Bought mine for $1000 with no dents, new-ish paint, and decent (not great) interior. Had a busted half-shaft that cost me $120 to replace.

Not with this car. You want to use a Turbo or C2 chassis for the LS swap, otherwise you're dumping a bunch of money into the transaxle and brakes.
Also, LS swap you're looking at about $2000 for the swap kit, plus the motor (another $1000 for a decent example). Do it yourself, and you could rebuild the motor for under $1000.

Even if the engine was running, that's a $1500 car, max.

Do your research (or talk to me) before jumping into a 944, especially if you plan to do an engine swap. Honestly (and I say this as the owner of two 944s), it's not the best platform for the LS swap.

CP. Never pay much for a car that isn't running. How are the brakes? The clutch? Etc. Oh, you don't know and can't really find out because the motor is blown.
